The best way I know to assess a restaurant is to try the simplest dishes, the ones which form the basis of the more complex dishes, for example, plain noodles. I did that here, and they were excellent. The more complex dishes are absolutely delicious, the staff are consistently cheerful and welcoming and the prices are more than reasonable. I almost never give 5 stars or 10/10, but the Shanghai has earned it.
